Consumer Alert! Toning Shoes May Increase Risk of Serious Injury
Toning shoe manufacturers claim their products tone your leg muscles while you walk. They also claim toning shoes burn more calories and boost your core strength - all without a trip to the gym or exercise class. That new pair of
toning shoes may feel good at first, but health experts say some toning shoes pose a risk of serious injury and may not deliver the muscle toning benefits that manufacturers claim.
If you have been injured while wearing a popular
brand of toning shoes, including but not limited to Skechers, Reebok or MBT, talk to an experienced toning shoes injury lawyer at Janet, Jenner & Suggs LLC to understand your legal rights. You may be entitled to compensation for harm caused by a toning shoe injury.

Toning Shoes: An Increased Risk of Falls?
Many toning shoes have a sole design that requires the wearer to work harder to maintain balance during daily activity. For example, Skechers Shape-ups have a rounded sole design that is intended to increase motion from heel to toe.
Instability can increase the risk of falling for some shoe wearers, experts say, leading to a broken ankle or hip.
Unstable shoes are particularly risky for older wearers who have more muscle weakness and ankle instability, and who may be more prone to falling. However, anyone wearing a toning shoe may roll their ankle, fall and break a bone.
Claims that toning shoes significantly increase a person’s fitness are "utter nonsense," Barbara de Lateur, a distinguished service professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, said in an article in USA Today.
Some manufacturers greatly overstate the benefits and do not fully disclose the risks associated with toning shoes, according to the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine. Toning shoes have been linked to injuries such as stress fractures, tendonitis, broken bones, knee and hip injuries.
